Introduction
The North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMC) is a private medical college that is situated in the Sirajganj of Bangladesh, near the banks of the Jamuna River. Set up in 2000 with government approval, this is the first private medical college of northern Bangladesh.
The course duration at North bengal medical college (NBMC) is 5 years MBBS programme and then a compulsory 1 year of Internship. The syllabus of the MBBS course is completely based on the English language and affiliated with the Rajshahi Medical University. The course has been authorized by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC) for both local and international students.
NBMC has a 6.17 acre riverside campus that has modern learning infrastructure as well as historic building complexes and affiliated teaching hospitals. The on-campus hospital enables the students to gain constant clinical exposure during their MBBS course.
History
The North Bengal Medical College (NBMC) was established in the year 2000 by the efforts of the late Professor Dr. M. A. Matin, an eminent medical teacher and social worker, and Founding Principal, Professor Dr. Tashmina Mahmood. The college was set up with the objective of enhancing medical education and healthcare services in north Bangladesh.
The objective of the college is to offer a quality MBBS programme to students selected from the national admission system to produce qualified physicians who would serve their community in Bangladesh as well as other countries.
Since its inception, the college has been growing in terms of expansion of academic departments, development of its teaching hospital, sending its graduates for postgraduate studies both in Bangladesh as well as abroad, and alumni joining the college teaching faculty.
